Samir Nasri’s international career was dealt with a big blow after France was eliminated from the UEFA Euro 2012 and the French midfielder was involved with a scandal surrounding a French journalist which concluded with Nasri getting banned for 3 matches.

With the 2014 World Cup approaching, coaches of each participating nation have to create a short-list of players which they will be bringing to Brazil. It’s a dream of every player around the world to represent their country and lift the World Cup trophy but Nasri is not very optimistic about his chances of getting called up.

"I want to wear this shirt but if I do not go to the World Cup it will make it two I have missed. At the moment I am rather pessimistic than optimistic so far. I was not part of the last friendly against the Netherlands and it was the last call before the World Cup group being named and I didn't get any explanation’’.

"But if I don't go to the World Cup, it will be because of my inadequate performances in the national team rather than my behavior. In the 2010 World Cup, it was the biggest scandal of the French team and I was not part of it. But I can accept I have not been good in some matches with the French team, notably the first leg in Ukraine in their World Cup play-off’’. Nasri revealed.

Nasri has been a consistent performer in just about every club he joined. He started his playing career competing in the youth clubs of Marseille until eventually making a move to Arsenal where he continued performing at a high level.

After spending 4 seasons with Arsenal, many fans did not agree about his decision of moving on to Manchester City which is why there the Frenchman is a constant target of hate and criticism, much like Fabregas when he decided to leave Arsenal and join Barcelona with one of the main reasons being that he wanted to win trophies.
